Join Us in the Fight Against Cancer by Rock Climbing or Hiking June 22-23

Few people live without knowing someone who has suffered or died from cancer. It’s pervasive; nearly 12 million people in the United States have it–one in four Americans. And, as of 2008, nearly 600,000 people die from it each year. That’s why, for eight years now, Stonewear Designs has partnered with the HERA Foundation by donating thousands of dollars worth of tank tops and T-shirts to the HERA Climb4Life events held in Boston, DC, Salt Lake City, and here in Boulder, Colorado (June 22-23). Founded by Sean Patrick, the HERA Foundation raises funds and awareness for ovarian cancer research and direct assistance to those fighting the disease. No other organization has done as much to raise awareness for this issue. The Foundation runs HERA Climb4Life rock climbing events and Run Like a Girl running events throughout the year.
We strongly believe in doing all we can to support the fight against ovarian cancer (and all cancers), and so in addition to providing tank tops, we’re helping spread the word. Here’s what we’re up to:

Eve will recount her battle against cancer as a teen, how that struggle shaped her current drive to become more fit, and her first experiences climbing, which she will have at the Boulder HERA Climb4Life event. Climb4Life and the REI — HERA Climb4Life Speakers Series
Boulder Climb4Life: Please join us at the Boulder HERA Climb4Life event June 22-23. You can rock climb or just hike if that’s your preference. Stonewear’s ladies will be there in force, climbing alongside you and your friends, doing yoga with you in the mornings before climbing starts, and dancing with you on Saturday night! Pro Climber Heidi Wirtz to speak 5/31, Boulder REI 6:30-8p.m.: Join the HERA Foundation to virtually travel the world with “Heidi Almighty” and hear about her experience rock climbing and exploring some of the world’s biggest walls and most remote mountains. Following Heidi’s talk, HERA will show a short film about the foundation’s founder Sean Patrick. In establishing the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, Sean gathered a community, became a catalyst for change, and continues, even after her death, to inspire the critical quest for ovarian cancer research and awareness. Free event! Pro Climber Chris Van Leuven to speak 6/1, Boulder REI 6:30-8p.m.: Writer Chris Van Leuven, otherwise known as CVL or “Spaz,” has been climbing for 20 years, much of that in Yosemite. Join us to get a look into the incredible world of Yosemite free climbing and some of Chris’ amazing adventures. Learn more.
Free event! Tonya & Brad Clement to speak 6/4, Boulder REI 6:30-8p.m.: Devoted alpinists and rock climbers, Brad and Tonya had their first date on Mt. Everest. Tonya was the 20th American woman to have climbed Mt. Everest and the 5th to have reached the top by the treacherous North Ridge. Brad, a high altitude cameraman/filmmaker, is one of few Americans who has summited Everest from both the North and South side. Through video, photography and personal stories, they will “guide” you up Mt. Everest. Learn more.
